2010/2011 allstars on KRTU Jazz 91.7 FM, interviews and live performances

It takes a village to raise a globally conscious musician. The Alamo Colleges Jazz Allstars Mentorship Program represents that village for San Antonio students. Audition in November to become a member of the next generation of Allstars. Perform locally and internationally. Contact: Katchie Cartwright, kcartwright2@alamo.edu, 210-486-4828.

The Alamo Colleges Jazz Allstars is an intercollegiate mentorship program. It is open to any student enrolled fulltime in one of the five Alamo Colleges campuses at the time of application. Live auditions are held each November, at which time a panel of outside judges selects five students to form a jazz quintet. During the spring semester, the quintet performs locally and is coached by regional professionals and visiting artists. One grand prize recipient (selected by the IASJ) is invited to the annual meeting of the International Association of Schools of Jazz (IASJ) in late June or early July, where s/he performs, lives, and learns with fellow students from all over the world for one week. The meetings are hosted by a different IASJ member school each year. Singer Jeané Gaines, Northwest Vista College, participated in the IASJ meeting in São Paulo, Brazil in 2011 as the first Alamo Allstars grand prize winner. Congratulations, Jeané!
